One minor correction: Irving has played 8 NHL games, but has played a total of 196 games of professional hockey. In his eight NHL games, it must be conceded that he has looked very good, save for one really, REALLY abysmal performance in Boston.

He played poorly earlier this season, and since his return from a very good callup to the Flames last year. But if you read some of Pierre the Monster Maguire's more detailed analysis of Irving in several of his posts, it seems that there are a number of significant factors that affected his most recent AHL play.
I understand the concern. I only think that it needs to be tempered considerably until after at least a game or two for Irving. Now is certainly not the time to trade for another goalie, or to sign a retread. I think Boomer is likely playing up the alarm because it makes for good radio, but even feigned panic at this stage is extremely premature.
