Growing up in Ontario only ever seeing leafs games, I grew up as a young child actually being told by family that the leafs were "Canada's team" and that you had to cheer for them if you were a good Canadian. When I got to an age where I wasn't so influanced by family and could think on my own, I started following more teams and then I just couldn't stop following the Flames.
I do remember one of my uncle's telling me that the leafs never won the cup because they were the best team so they didn't need to, the winner of the Stanley cup would always be the second best team of the year after the leafs.
