A little different story than the rest as it was I that gave my kids the misconception.

I have twin boys. When they were 2-3 years old I had bought them NHL placemats. I taught them the teams and everyone was amused when I would point at a logo and they could tell me who it was in their adorable little kid voices.

The Calgawy Fwames, the Tamba Bayz Wightnings, the St. Woois Bwoos.

The hilarity ensued when I would point at the Oilers logo. The Stinkin Oiii-wers. To them that is what they were called.

However it wasn't so funny when we were in McDonalds and they pointed at a scruffy angry looking dude who was about 6'6" 270 lbs wearing an Oilers cap behind us in line and started shrieking, "Wook dad, the Stinkin' Oiiii-wers, the Stinkin' Oiiii-wers!" over and over again while I tried to shush them up as he gave me the angriest staredown I've received so far in my life. He was not amused as most and I was just happy to get out of there without suffering a brutal beatdown.

Haha Stinkin Oiiii-wers.
