i liked the third movie but it wasn't as good as the first.
when i sat in the theatre in 1999 and lawrence fishburne is holding that duracell, MAN was that a movie moment.
i suspect a lot of disappointment with the other two movies stems from that moment, i mean the mind messing was done right away and the rest is catching up to that mindblowing idea.
also, i hate to call the movie-watching public sheep, but i saw both 2 and 3 before 99% of moviegoers, a private showing the day before. i might add the only movies i've seen preview style! anyway everyone i saw them with thought they were good, i think a lot of opinions were formed after a general malaise and the "i heard it sucked" phenomenon.
how else could it really have gone? neo discovers his abilities as a war in the real world is brewing. there's matrix fighting and big robots, flying things, and some original sci-fi ideas like big old-school cannons instead of laser beams everywhere. it was a little different, a little new.
bottom line the first one was a leap of logic that could not be matched.
