Losing 6-3 against one of the bottom teams playing their 3-game in 4-nights is not playing well. You can play the 'if only' game if you want. But Kipper, Butler, Sarich, etc are all members of this team. You can't say 'if only Kipper played well then we would have won'. For example.
Using the 'if only' defense over and over and over again during the past 4 seasons isn't being optimistic. It is being naive. At some point people need to recognize that we aren't the unluckiest team on the planet. We are just not that good.
I like the tempo. I love Cervenka/Hudler. I have been impressed with Wideman. Backlund is showing great potential. Stajan (gasp) has been solid. Tanguay, Stempniak, and Glencross have had their moments (and have had their 'moments'.) Bouwmeester looks like he might turn it around.
But we are 1-3-1 to start the season. We were dreadful twice. We were almost good enough to win twice. We were dominant once against a team we are generally dominant against. That just isn't good enough.
"But we could have won...." just doesn't do it for me anymore. Sorry if it does it for you.
