My friend just spent three months salary on an engagement ring, that's insanity to me. So my unpopular opinion I guess would be that people spend too much money on the whole "engagement/wedding" process.

Except the people of Toronto don't seem as friendly as they do in Calgary.
I sat with a young wedding planner, flying back from Toronto, and she said it was not unusual for the wealthy to spend $250,000. on a wedding.
No wonder so many young people are so heavily in debt, with all the monster houses they think they should have. I have a theory that whatever living space you have, your brain will automatically adjust to make it comfortable. My parents were quite comforable in a 650 sq ft prefab home.
My engagement ring cost me $149.00 in 1960.
