The Flames need to sign a few high profile prospects shortly - contract numbers aside, there is still an organizational budget they need to consider.
Players the age of Boychuk get waived quite often and turn out to be decent NHL players. Boychuk is not being waived because there is an intention to get rid of him, but rather because they want to send him to the AHL. More than likely he is being squeezed out because of someone returning from injury, much like the situation we will be faced with when Babchuk returns as the only defenseman that is not subject to waivers is Brodie.

If Horak is better, then what is the point?
Completely different players I think. Horak is better defensively and Boychuk is better offensively. I think Byron is a better comparison to Boychuk, although I think Boychuk is better than Byron by a decent amount.

I also don't get why everyone is bringing up Comeau. It's like people fail to understand that Boychuk is a completely different player, he is simply not capable of filling a 4th line role and he can't play a physical game. Boychuk needs to be utilized in a scoring role, Comeau does not.

I like Boychuk alot, but we simply do not have space for him, we can't afford to give up what little grit we have for him. However i do think whoever claims him will be very happy if they have the ability to use him in a top 9 scoring role.
