No it wouldn't have. The only way to stop that would have been to totally ban guns and then remove all the guns from people who own them. The Sandyhook shooting was committed with a non-automatic weapon. Would the exact kind of rifle available have changed his willingness to murder a bunch of children? The gun was also stolen from the possession of a relative, who probably would have registered the gun had it been necessary but retained ownership of at least some kind of gun.
