I find EE offers a lot of enjoyment professionally. There is a significant science component to it, as well as being easily accessible.
What turned me off of the other disciplines is the long lead-time to gratification. Yes, you could design a pipeline or bridge or chemical plant, but to see those come to fruition, you're looking at years. If you want to design a circuit and write firmware, you're looking at weeks or less (leaving out the project management and nailing down requirements).
I am always surprised when I find ex-interns go to EPCM type companies once they graduate. My first taste of electronics and embedded development, I never wanted to do anything else.
