I remember when I was working for CPR/IBM and a bunch of mainframe guys were talking about how many people scrambled to pick up other Unix sys admin skills or DBA skills as the feared for their careers when mainframes were obsolete, which should have been any time back in the 90s. Now here we are, 2013, with a bunch of critical systems still relying on them, and very few people left with the skill-set to take care of them. I'd imagine the guys that stuck it out are all laughing all the way to the bank now.
