I believe this could be the year the Flames finally nail that top 5 pick. There likely won't be much separation from 15th and 9th in the conference final standings and a few more losses to open the season and the Flames will have to go on a monumental run just to get back to their normal 10th spot finish. This season just has that feeling that it's going to hit rock bottom inducing a deadline fire sale including the captain finally accepting a trade.
I for one am a little excited actually about the prospects of a top 5 pick and the team having a fresh start with new leaders. I'm tired of the same old slow starts and choking down the stretch that have been the hallmark of Iginla's Flame teams of recent history. We have ample evidence now that the same old problems that have dogged this team didn't all stem from Keenan, Playfair, Sutter, or Hartley.
