You said that people who eat meat are behaving like apes and are equivalent to a sadist who gets his jollies by hurting animals, not as a means to an ends, but as an ends in and of itself. That is, to put it kindly, being preachy.
If you had simply said that you don't get enough joy from the taste of meat or health benefits from the protein in meat to make up for the guilt that you feel from knowing that another creature suffered, I don't think anyone would take issue with that.
