Job Description: JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Team Leader EH&S, you will be responsible to implement a strategic plan to raise awareness and understanding of, and engagement in EH&S programs at a corporate, team and individual level. As a communications business partner to Business Services, you will be considered a part of your client's team collaborating with a variety of leaders and subject matter experts to achieve your client's goals and ultimately Suncor's goal.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Develop communication strategies to support your client's goal while reflecting Suncor's business and communication priorities, culture, strategy and values
  • Create and implement communication plans in support of strategy
  • Collaborate with change management specialists where they exist to ensure change impacts are appropriately communicated
  • Highlight relevant business initiatives by writing online and print articles for company-wide communication tools (newsletter, employee intranet), and pursuing other internal and external opportunities as appropriate
  • Build an understanding of your client's part of the business to best identify issues and opportunities and provide counsel
  • Collaborate with communicators across the company to ensure alignment on issues and communication activities that impact multiple businesses and organizational areas
  • Understand, appropriately engage, and be an ambassador for the services model and processes of the Communication & Stakeholder Relations (C&SR) team, including: brand, event planning, reputation management, media and issue management, employee communications, government relations, and stakeholder relations
  • Ensure smooth delivery of tactical employee and leadership communications for internal activities and campaigns
  • Measurement and evaluation of function
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum seven years experience in communications, preferably within a corporate communications setting
  • Post-secondary education in Communications or Public Relations (equivalencies of experience and education will be considered)
  • Experience acting as a consultant to internal or external client groups with proven track record as trusted and strategic communication advisor
  • Experience helping clients manage communication issues and reputational challenges
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Superior communications skills, including planning, research, writing, editing, and measurement
  • Creative implementation and ability to think through and "pitch" new ideas
  • Strong writing abilities, including key message development and speech writing experience
  • Strong conflict management and problem solving skills - a team player who knows how to engage diverse interests and build internal coalitions
  • A strong work ethic, with demonstrated examples of consistently holding self and others accountable for achieving results
  • Ability to adapt to organizational and project changes
  • Demonstrated ability to carry unstructured projects to completion within a changing environment, and working successfully with different types of people at many organizational levels
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects to tight deadlines, both independently and as a member of a team
  • Sound judgment in dealing with information that is sometimes highly sensitive and confidential
  • Ability to act as a project leader as required, and coach other communication team members where no formal reporting relationship exists
  • Ability to build strong relationships with team members; work in a collaborative and consultative manner
  • Comfortable working with senior executives
  • Highly skilled with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
