I've never seen the competitiveness or fire that you'd expect from a so-called top-flight defenseman, and I think it would be wise for the Flames to part ways with him while he still has value.

I still hold out some hope. As another poster pointed out, his style of play was different in Florida. He jumped into the offense more often and just looked a little more energetic. Not that I watched a lot of Florida games back then, but there are some decent highlights from his time there. The same can't be said for his time with the Flames.
Two games and a 6 day training camp doesn't give a new coach a lot of time to work with players that have been indoctrinated by another coach for the past 3 seasons. I am not going to take it as far as those people who last season were still trying to defend Sutter by saying he was still undoing what Keenan did, but surely it take a little time.

I would rank Bouwmeester/Wideman tied for 3rd in terms of performance this year with neither one being overly impressive and both getting failing grades.
Perhaps Wideman gets the benefit of the doubt because this poor play should have been expected of him and Bouwmeester has shown he can play much better.

At least Wideman can through some good hits once in a while too.
