The thing about that is that it's all vague, superficial nonsense. It's about "clean air and clean water". Well what exactly do you want? How do you propose we improve air and water quality? "It's about safety for women." Well, fantastic, I'm in favour of that, how would you like to further this cause? "It’s about making a positive change in our communities." Yeah, okay, that just doesn't mean anything.
WRT the buget bill, okay, I get the Indian Act issue - the fear is that the Aboriginal Affairs minister can call a meeting with 5 people from a band and thereby dispossess them of their land. That about right? Well, first, any such activity is subject to judicial review, so that'd be a tough one to explain to a hearing judge. But second, fair enough. Maybe that language should be changed. I think I get what the government is trying to address there - it's very difficult to get enough of the eligible voters together to pass a measure under the old system. But maybe this swings the pendulum too far the other way. Would a quorum provision that requires at least 10% of band members to be present at the meeting and casting votes satisfy everyone?
