I think Bellichick borrowed the idea from Chip Kelly about running a play immediately after a big gain by the offence. The Patriots seem to create goal line scoring plays quite often by running a play immediatly as the defence is still trying to figure out how they'll line up.

I don't know why more teams haven't picked up on this yet.
