I know his numbers weren't great last year, and if he were to come over next year and struggle again, it could very well end his NHL chances. Maybe another year in Europe would be best for his development.

I would hope he would/could spend at least another two years in Finland. Young goalies almost never do excellent in the AHL. Around 24-26 is when they start getting the hang of things.
I didn't like Ortio's game at all last season when he was with the Heat. He had a very bad case of Luongoitis. Ten foot rebounds and fell to his stomach far too often.
By the sounds of it, he's doing excellent on a bad team in Finland. That can only mean good things, so the Flames should keep him there.
Does anyone know the rules regarding European players and maintaining their rights overseas?
