If the poster is mostly just continually spouting the same nonsense and being willfully ignorant and ignoring counterpoints, than yes, some people who are reading the thread who have differing viewpoints are going to point it out to him and it'll probably have a snowball effect.
It's an internet message board, I'm sure Sliver doesn't go running from the keyboard into his wife's arms because I'm calling most of his arguments stupid/ignorant/irrational. In the same way I'm not planning his real life demise... sure sometimes things may get a little heated but at other times I think it's more amusement on both ends. I'm also not going to follow him around the message board hounding him or PM him something nasty... because to be honest, I don't mind him as a poster on pretty much any other subject.

I think you're losing sight of the fact that this is an argument on the internet between people with nicknames/avatars as their representation. Calling an entire message board pathetic is well... different.
