Default Russians christen new Nuclear Sub

The Russians unvealed their newest nuclear Submarine the Yury Dolgoruky the first of a new flight of Borei class Nuclear Missile carrying submarines set sale on Sunday to take part in a naval submarine. The Borei class is a strategic nuclear weapons platform which carries between 16 and 20 solid fueled ICBM is to form a major part of the Russian's nuclear deterrence strategy.

Super quiet and able to dive to 480 meters this boat is expected to make things difficult for the American 688i class boats and might be a test for Seawolf and Virginia class hunter killers. This sub is a departure from Soviet missile boat philosophy as its designed to take part in 3 month deterrence cruises.

The Russians are also currently testing the new Yasen class fast attack boat with the first one in trials and expected to be commissioned this year and followed by more then 30 more. The Yasen class boat is considered to be a state of the art boat which is expected to surpass the 688i class boat and sit equivalent to the Virginia class submarine. Designed to run silent at 28 knots and with a maximum tested speed of 35 knots its one of the fastest subs since the ambitious but flawed Alpha Class sub (41 knots).

This coincides with an aggressive Russian build up of their surface navy and frontal aviation units.
