A thread worth bumping. I've begun getting into scotch over the course of the past 6 months or so and am always interested to see what people have to say about the various brands. Inspired by Chris Hitchens, JW Black Label was the first one I purchased, and I ended up getting a bunch for Christmas in addition to some that I'd already bought, so I'll be set for the next little while. I'm currently inundated with:

Johhnie Walker Platinum Label
Johnnie Walker Collection (four small bottles of JW Blue, Black, Gold, and Green)
Glenfiddich 12 yr
The Malts Collection (three small bottles of Talisker, Lagavulin 12, and Cragganmore)

It was a scotchy Christmas (I put a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold under the tree for my grandpa, also). The JW Platinum's good, and is a new fixture in the JW line, along with Gold Reserve (which are both replacing the Gold and Green Labels in 2013). I'm excited to sample the JW Blue Label as well, even though I've been told that its quality doesn't quite aspire to the heights of its price.

Single malts are a bit heftier to get in to right off the bat, but I'm beginning to see how they're the preferred drink of the seasoned connoisseur. I really enjoy Glenfiddich 12 year (seems sweet, creamy, not overpowering), and Lagavulin has a very substantial flavour with the longest finish of any of the scotches I've tried thus far.

That JW platinum is some fine stuff. Man was that beautiful. If I could find it for cheaper than $150 I would be happy to procure some.

The Blue is amazing, amazing stuff. That's a pipe dream for me.
