The land was leased not bought, and that your grandfather leased it does not diminish your obligation to the lease, my father has a 66 year lease on his apartment in London, when he dies I will inherit what ever is left of it, I cant just decide to keep the house when that lease expires, I have to go to the land owner and negotiate an extension or purchase of the lease.
