First of all the NHLPA did not strike, the owners locked them out, and are responsible for the lack of NHL hockey.
Second, you still were able to buy groceries from a simiar store (Coop etc)
And thirdly, if Safeway did lock out their staff, closed their doors and were coming back, you can bet they would be offering up their customers a whole lot of incentives to come back in the store.
