I see three likely possibilities for Iginla:

1) Stay with the Flames for the duration of his career
2) Get traded at the deadline to a contender
3) Sign with a contender as a FA in the offseason

Somehow, you neglected to mention #1. Regarding the other options, the key word is "contender" meaning the Oilers aren't included in that discussion.
Nope - haven't neglected #1. The whole point of my dialogue is to ask why someone who supposedly wants to remain a Flame forever - would still not be signed to an extension as we head into the last year of his contract. Knowing what a gongshow of media and distraction this will create for the team. A mediocre, playoff bubble team that surely cannot afford such distractions. The Flames have no interest in letting this happen, so i see the only rational explanation being Iginla is refusing to sign a new deal.

Your other 2 options are the same ones i mentioned earlier. Someone else asked me to speculate on whats behind door #3, so i did. It was NOT in my initial thoughts. And i did it precisely to cause a ruckus.

That being said, i think many folks here seriously overstate the so-called edm-calgary rivalry. It is hardly the hate relationship it once was. I think if Iginla actually did sign with Edm - many of you would be surprised (or disgusted) at how many calgarians cheered for the oilers if they were to make a run with #12 in the lineup.
