I posted this in the Raptors thread, but what bothers me about the Burke firing is the speculation that he wasn't a "company man" type - basically a politician. Personally, I don't think he deserved to be fired, simply because he wasn't given enough time. In a hardass market like Toronto, they needed a guy to do like Burke to do things his way and at times, set the media straight. Nonis I don't believe is the guy for the job because he rubs me as the guy who'll crack under pressure - whether from media or upper management, to just make a deal for the sake of pulling the trigger. Any deal any team makes with Toronto is thought about extra hard considering the scrutiny it'll go through. I wasn't really a fan of Burke's holier than thou attitude in Anaheim, but no other GM would have held off on deals to maximize value in Toronto they way he did with Kaberle and Schenn. While the team is far from a real playoff contender, he didn't do a horrible job, and I'd go so far to say he actually never lost bigtime on any deal he made - even the Kessel deal (good decision at the time - nobody expected the Leafs to be that bad and draft that high at the time). What a stupid decision by the Leafs to let him go because of how he portrayed himself. Dummies all around.
As for the Canucks wanting value for Luongo - how can they get it? His contract will handcuff a franchise for years to come, and he's proven to not be a big game player consistently. Toronto would be terrible for him, and Nonis if he deals for him will really screw the Leafs for years to come.
