We lived inside the Arctic Circle when I was a kid (Coppermine, now known as Kugluktuk). My parents spent a great deal of money on really good coats for all of us before we moved up there. Did we use them? For what seemed like about 5 minutes, before we were seeking out the handmade parkas. They were much better than our coats were. Got a lot of use out of those coats when we moved back to Alberta but if we were ever to live that far north again (not likely), I wouldn't even bother with the 'commercial' coats. The parkas were MUCH cheaper in price than the coats my folks bought.
