Where do you get that I'm not trying to teach my kids to live with dogs, anyway? Of course I don't want four untrained, unleashed rotties snarfing all over them. That's the responsible thing to do as a parent. If I can find a good, well trained dog to let my kids get comfortable with I will, but they aren't as common in my circles as they must be in your guys'.

Anyway, my son loves dogs and I think that's good and healthy and try to encourage it. My daughter doesn't like them - I'm trying to get her to relax around them more, but I don't see the point in making her try to love them as I can see what she's thinking when she wipes her hand on her jeans after touching them and her general look of displeasure when a dog tries to lick her or smell her face or rub its fur on her.

Well, I don't think my point is absurd and I know you're wrong that dogs like rotties and pit bulls shouldn't be feared. They can do a lot of damage and a healthy dose of fear is very reasonable.

With training those risks probably can be mitigated, but I don't trust your average rottie or pit bull owner to be the type that will properly train their dog.
By teaching them to fear dogs.

Then saying your average Rottie owner isn't the type to train their dog is all kinds of stupid. Haven't you just read all the posts of people with small dogs that don't have control of them? Who is the type of owner that doesn't bother to train their dogs again?
