If I'm understanding the "buyout" properly, I just don't see how the Flames are in trouble. There is no scenario I can think of where it would make one tiny bit of sense to buyout either Hudler or Wideman.

17.1M for 9 spots works out to 1.9M per player and our best player needs a new contract this summer. If the Flames don't keep Iggy they don't have a ton of space to bring in a new franchise player.
Now the Flames might trade Kipper, or Bouwmeester for picks/prospects but this team needs cap relief in the new world. Wideman is a bad contract plain and simple. He was paid at the height of his market value under the previous CBA. 5 year deal for a 29 year old career #3 Dman with a full NMC is a deal the Flames may want to reconsider sticking with if they can get out of it.
Hudler I will agree is highly unlikely to get a buyout he has a more manigable deal.
