Assuming zero buyouts, the Flames have a cap payroll of 47.9M (capgeek #s) for 2013-14, leaving them with 12.1M cap space and having to fill 9 roster spots.
Buy-out Stajan's contract, the Flames have 14.6M cap space for 2013-14.
Buy-out Stajan + Stempniak, the Flames have 17.1M cap space for 2013-14.
If I'm understanding the "buyout" properly, I just don't see how the Flames are in trouble. There is no scenario I can think of where it would make one tiny bit of sense to buyout either Hudler or Wideman.
