ALL the cap teams will be dropping someone with signficant salary with this buy out.

After all the input on this thread it is almost surely has to be Bouwmeester. He is by far the worst Flames contract.

The only other options are Cammalleri or Wideman or Kipper....

Ie the guys making over 5M.

As bad as Stempniak and Sarich and Stajan are being overpaid .... when you count in their roster replacement at 1M they provide very little cap savings.

If I was a Flames owner I would make a rule that Feaster can't give out any contracts to surnames starting with "S"
I think you have the blinders on here. To buy out Bouwmeeser will cost you 4 million plus, and you'll still need to get a 3-4 million dollar player to replace what he brings. So really you save 2.5 million in cap, and spend 8 million to do it. Whereas if you buyout Stajan, the buyout costs the team around 1.6 million and the guy that you replace Stajan with likely is playing for 700k a year. So you gain 2.8 in cap savings and spend 2.3 million to get it.

As much as many of us love to bash on Bouwmeester...he is going to be one of the teams top 3 defenceman, and quite likely will lead them in ice time. If they remove a guy like him from the lineup, they have to bring in another player from outside the organization to plug the hole it would create in the lineup. Should the cap contract drastically...the Flames like many other teams will feel a big squeeze. They might be better off to take their lumps that year, let short term deals with high cap hits like Bouwmeester, Cammalleri, and Kiprusoff expire, than start anew the season after that.
