If this scenario comes to play, I believe it would be in the teams best interest to hang onto Jay and trade him at the deadline if need be. Better off to get something for him, than give him a cheque and let someone else sign him for a lower cap hit. Needless to say I would look at this differently if he had 3 or more years hounding the team.
