Admittedly, I find hunting, unless it's the absolute last resort for food, being morally and ethically repugnant.
That said however, not everyone is brought up in the same environment, and have different cultural norms. Some parts of the chinese culture thinks that the more mistresses you have the more awesome you are (Tiger Woods became more popular there after his scandal for example). That doesn't mean that here or in the US that all of a sudden adultery should be heralded.
Similarly with rural people in both Canada and the US, hunting is a part of their every day lives and has been since the fur traders back in the 1800's. You can't just magically turn that switch off even though you and I might find it disgusting. You cannot blame the cat for catching the mouse so to speak.
Each one of us is true to ourselves because that's who we are as individuals. Whether one seeks wisdom in another's philosophical beliefs or remains vigilant to their own opinion is up to the individual. The only thing that one can be hopeful for is that perhaps the perceived negative thing will not get passed down through to the following generation.
It's like with gay marriage as an example. 20 years ago you were seeing people still getting lynched and beat up just because they were gay. Now, most of those that were opposed have since died, while the younger generation is mostly accepting of it. Eventually those that are still staunchly opposed to it (65+ age group) will not be a factor and then it'll be accepted by the majority and will become normalized over time, just like interracial marriage and black people having the right to vote etc. These things did not magically happen overnight. Nor will it be possible to get rid of guns or the gun culture or hunting or any of the other negative things that go on (poverty etc.), until there's a ground swell of support towards getting rid of those things and then eventually over time things will change.
That's not excusing what an individual might have done. Everybody has their own set of sins. Some of the things we might find trivial, another might find equally as disgusting. The only thing that there can be in an open and honest debate between individuals in hopes that progress towards general "good" can be made.
