I am in agreement that fully auto weapons don't have a place in civilian's hands. I have shot a few fully automatic weapons in my life. They are pretty hardcore. However, after the first few shots . I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with it so they are pointless to have...

Your second para supports tighter control of the weapon(s) mentioned in your first para. A semi-auto weapon is just as dangerous if not more dangerous that a full auto weapon. You can put more rounds on a target in semi-auto than full-auto. In the militray I shot a lot, and lots of different weapons. I can count on one hand the number of times I have shot full auto. It is really no a very useful/effective use of the weapon. Although, I don't know this as a fact, I would suggest that the shooters in the situations also use semi-auto.
I really can't see a reason for the public to have access to these weapons.
