I think Ashley Cole is a better footballer than Rooney. He shuts down that (right attacking) flank every match with consistency. He shuts down Messi every time.
If you were to put together a European XI right now, Ashley Cole would be the only Engand player to be considered. He's the best left back in the world in maybe the last 20 years.
