I also went to see it last night (regular 3D). I really enjoyed it. I'm not a purist, so some of the discrepancies with the book didn't really bother me. Acting was top notch, especially Freeman as Bilbo. As others have mentioned the exchange with Gollum and Bilbo was exceptional.
Perhaps the one gripe I had was a few instances where the CG looked fake. I know a strength of LOTR trilogy was using people in costume, and I feel that would have been a better choice for one of the characters that was CG. Also, I know this story took place 60 years before LOTR, but the reverse aging of Galadriel and Elrond was a tad excessive (do elves even age?)
Loved the movie. Will see it again in theaters for sure.
