Google is just making the App, Apple is the one who integrates their crappy map application with their contact list. Google has zero control over that. Google has allowed other third party developers to use Google Maps in their Apps but your issue is totally out of Google's control.

It's Apples fault if they continue to use an inferior Map with their contact list, not Googles.

Plenty of other non-apple apps can use the phones contacts list. This is nothing to do with Apple.
