This whole thing started because Google refused to add it to the original app. Now they have, and they've lost a pretty significant footprint along the way by being relegated to 3rd party aftermarket status.

At the end of the day though, do I really care how it happened? Not particularly. I believe "means to an end" is rather apropos here.
