Kukri are downright nasty weapons and definitely make huge slash marks. Not sure about the raw tissue damage, as zombies don't feel pain and the only real thing you can do with it is slice vital tissue (such as surface abdominal muscle), and maybe leg muscles if you're really close. No decapitation ability, just the ability to turn them into an immobile pile at close range. Unless you're really aiming for the lower body muscles or something to slice the head off, they're not entirely useful.
The biggest tissue you'd want to aim for are legs (immobilization as the muscle is severed), in which you want all the time you can afford to aim for. There isn't, in my knowledge of biology, an easy muscle to aim for that'd disable that in the torso region. The reward seems a little low for the risk.

I would suggest something with a larger reach though for zombies. A spear or something of the nature is still going to be my melee weapon of choice. They jab a lot easier...and if you're in a group, a wall of pointed spears with a group of friends probably will serve any guarding purpose you need. Killing power is a little lower, but at least you don't you don't get bitten as easily. Kukri are nice and all, but they only have about arm's reach
