That said I'd think they'd take a solid look at the 787s and A350s. New planes, composite materials, fuel efficient and by the time they're ready to purchase they'd be ready with the kinks ironed out.

Couldn't agree more, but it is definitely in their best interest to start looking around now. Personally I think when the time comes they will go 787, it will have been in service for a few years and there will be a lot of airframes out there flying, so true performance numbers will be known.
