I absolutely hear what you're saying and am similarly invested with the material that you mentioned. I mean I camped overnight at Westhills for the Phantom Menace (and #### that #### three ways to next Sunday) and just last night listened to the 1968 BBC Radio dramatization of the Hobbit in its entirety. But you've made sweeping blanket assumptions (about your own potential enjoyment of the film!) before entering the theatre and that seems really weird. Was it ever going to be "as good" as the LOTR movies? It's a completely different experience, crafted out of novel for children. That's how I'm going in. And also to see just how cinematic and bombastic they have made the Professor Tolkien's material, at the same time ready to enjoy the experience and try not to feel too protective of the story that I grew up with as a kid. Anyway, I also look at RT occasionally but i'll be damned if i'll let that stuff affect my opinion of the film beforehand.
