I happened to be looking through a Canadian Tire flyer, and found a Kitchenaid professional stand mixer for $287 ($330 after taxes), which retails for $350-450 depending on where you're looking. I of course went out and grabbed one because the sale ended on the 6th.
I'm second guessing my purchase now though, not because I don't think she'll like it (she'll love it), but because I know she's a little hard up for cash and might be pissed that I blew so far past the agreed upon budget, when she definitely can't spend any more.
I'm not super worried about the money...I don't mind spending money on her, but do I return it, or hope that she's cool that I spent double what we agreed upon?
That's a tough one because it really does come down to the individual. Some people couldn't give two ****'s about the scenario you've given us, while others will see what you got and their heart will sink when they realize you spent double and they'll feel completely offput by the situation and read too much into it.
