This isn't a comment directly squarely towards people on this board, but in general from the conversations about the show that I've seen, but the producers seam to be in an epic catch 22 situation. If they focus too much on the mental/character driven story lines one half of their audience is pissed and if they focus too much on plot events/action/blood&gore/comicbook arcs the other half of the audience is pissed. I'll give the producers credit, because for at least a full season (Season 2 second half to Season 3 second half) they've done a really good job at this balance.
That being said, I think they're teetering on losing the half of the audience that really enjoyed the slow build up during Season 2, while galvanizing fans who thought Season 2 was far too slow. It'll be interesting to see if they keep the pace up with the second half of Season 2 or slow things down a bit.
