Evil Dead was made for $90,000, shocked audiences, demonstrated strong camera work, and disturbed people with a tree-rape scene - what's not to love or be impressed about.
Also, Locke, I think he deserves a bit more credit than you give him. His resume is not bad (aside from Spiderman 3), and in fact, could be considered very good - though beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

No. None of those are good. Spiderman 2 is tolerable the rest is hot garbage.
Evild Dead/Army of Darkness are good because they're bad.
His resume is dreadful. There isnt a single one of those films that I would watch unless it was 'Clockwork Orange' style or at gunpoint.
