It allows you to show your dog at its best in front of potential breeders who may either want to use your dog in stud or if you have a female, may want to purchase a puppy in any future litters. Currently stud dogs get anywhere from $1000 to $2500 for a breeding and puppies are in the same range.

Sorry, but dog breeding also confuses me. When people brag to me about their little puppy having show parents and a $5000 price tag, I ignore them and play with the puppy, just as I would with a mutt.
