Of course it happened in the LOTR films as well, and its a very filmic conceit, but to 'action-hero-ize' these characters to such a degree is arguably not in keeping with Tolkiens stories at all, where for the most part, the action is implied, and described in less than a few sentences, and in some cases the main characters/dwarves are made out to be more cowardly or peripheral than anything else.

I mean I'm definitely looking forward to the big action set pieces and recognize the need to ramp things up from a movie perspective, but in no way does that seem to align with the original material except for in a few specific cases (have been re-reading certain sections of the Hobbit). Just wonder if for anyone else out there, especially 'older' fans out there, that it poses a disconnect for them, or is something that will somehow hamper their enjoyment, knowing that it strays far beyond the bounds of the original material.

My girlfriend is somewhat upset that they're expanding on the source material to better fit the wider universe.
