With respect to the OP:
I've posted on this board many times before that I'm no fan of Trudeau and hope he doesn't win the Liberal leadership, but I'm not feeling the outrage about these comments that some of you are. Maybe I'm just reading more nuance there, but I interpret his remarks thusly:
- Amongst Canadians, Albertans are more conservative and Quebeckers are more liberal
- Since I'm a Liberal, I therefore prefer a PM from Quebec (even a Conservative like Mulroney), who will govern in a more left-wing fashion than a PM from Alberta
Despite being yet another example of his poor political instincts, I don't see anything particularly sinister about his comments. Harper & co. probably think the exact same thing but in reverse, and I don't see anything wrong with them having that attitude either.
