All the recaps of the Texans/Lions game say Schwartz made a costly mistake, then talk about throwing the challenge flag. Of course that was costly, but it is a new rule, and I can understand forgetting a rule when emotions are high.
Not trying to gain yards on third down in OT, and instead trying a 47 yard FG is a far costlier mistake. It's a move that shows that he has ZERO football sense. It isn't surprising when coaches with zero football sense lose games. The ESPN recap, for example, doesn't even mention that Detroit's FG was attempted on third down.
Coaches really should have a common sense "consultant" beside them on the sidelines at all times.
