I left Calgary for Red Deer 9 years ago and I wouldn't move back to the big city if you tripled my salary. Red Deer has everything you would want in a city except the traffic, NHL hockey and maybe a Bass Pro Shop.
I can get to work in under 10 minutes, I know most of my neighbors and have a big yard. Just 3 of many things I couldn't say about Calgary life.
Nice pace of life, smaller town feel with big city amenities. Works for me.

I agree, my family and I really like it here. Big enough to have everything you need. Yet small enough that you can get anywhere in town in less than 15 minutes. And if you do want something else, Calgary or Edmonton is only 90 minutes away.
