I left Calgary for Red Deer 9 years ago and I wouldn't move back to the big city if you tripled my salary. Red Deer has everything you would want in a city except the traffic, NHL hockey and maybe a Bass Pro Shop.
I can get to work in under 10 minutes, I know most of my neighbors and have a big yard. Just 3 of many things I couldn't say about Calgary life.
Nice pace of life, smaller town feel with big city amenities. Works for me.
