Is so (and if that isn't what he said I guess this is crap) he may have been like most people but just made hard because of his older domineering brother and absentee mom.
Either way he certainly seems to be much different than Merle no matter how hard he tries to be a badass loner.

It's interesting that Darryl (and the actor that plays him) is the most popular character on the show. I love the Han Solo comparison.
