For a normal theater, its always left/right middle and up/down middle +1 for me - right between the pair of L/R speakers there so the sound is balanced.
Given that an Imax theater isnt as deep as normal, I concur with others that 3-4 rows from the back (about 2/3 from the front) will be ideal.
As for the hat, dont worry. You'll be there. So will a chair kicking ignoramous behind me. And a popcorn flinging maniac to my left.
